Due to the increasing number of problems with Guatemala's intercountry
adoption process, the U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Service "because
of
ongoing investigations that affect adoption cases, may be unable to process
cases quickly and is likely to review all pending cases with more scrutiny.
More detailed investigations may be warranted to determine that a child is
truly eligible for adoption as an orphan."

The Guatemalan Adoptions Unit receives thousands of cases a year. We
would
like
to provide the best possible service, in order to do so please understand
the
following:
Once we receive your e-mail and due to the bulk of inquiries we receive it
may
take up to 7 business days to respond, not including weekends and Holidays
(please remember we also observe Guatemalan holidays). Please do not send
multiple e-mails or daily e-mails about the same subject.
· · · ·
If you are inquiring about a pre-approval and the DNA results were submitted
less that 30 days ago, please inquire after 30 days have passed. Inquiries
regarding DNA results that were submitted over 30 days ago will be reviewed
and
responded to.
Please bear in mind that DNA results are sent in batches by the
Laboratories,
not in individual packages per case. If you are given a tracking number,
there
are no guarantees that your case was included in that package.

If you are inquiring about your initial case filed with our office, please
contact your attorney and/or agency and request a copy of the "Hoja
Informativa"
date stamped by our office.
If you are inquiring about final document processing, please contact your
attorney and request a date stamped check list for final documents. This
will
give you proof of when your finals were filed. Bear in mind that the final
process for your child's visa has to go through two authorities: USCIS and
Consular section. Our part of the process takes 48 hours (not including
Fridays,
weekends and Holidays).
In an ongoing effort to better serve you more efficiently, USCIS will now
require that adopting parents submit notarized copies of their passports
(every
page that contains any information) with the final adoption packet and the
fully
completed I-600. USCIS is requiring these notarized copies in order to
expedite
the final adjudication process on the day of your "pink slip"
appointment
interview with the U.S. Consulate.
